1 Year!

Our little Ceci girl is 1 year old!  Can you even believe it?!

Ceci had a wonderful, low-key first birthday! We started off the day by having some treats and singing happy birthday to Ceci and her birthday buddy (and first roommate and friend!) Sophie. We videochatted with Nan in America and Granddad in the UK.  Then for dinner we had a family BBQ on our patio, complete with decorations, and of course a cake!  Ceci loved her cake but being a pro-eater she didn't make that much of a mess, lol.  She really enjoyed herself though!

Yummy!

At 1 year, Ceci is...

Standing.  She's a pro at pulling herself up to standing on anything and now she lets go and stands on her own for decent chunks of time. She's also cruising quite a bit more too, though crawling is still her favorite mode of transportation. I think walking is just around the corner.

Still growing like a weed.  She is getting SO tall!  Here's last month vs this month.

Loving nursery school (aka daycare).  She goes two mornings a week for three hours.  The session is actually five hours, but we arrive after breakfast and leave before lunch.  Once I start working I will likely extend her a bit.  She's excited every time we arrive and I get nothing but great reports from the teachers!  Yay!

Eating like it's going out of style.  She eats everything, and especially loves spicy stuff!  Favorites right now are rice, ricotta cheese, hamburgers, sausage (she's definitely her daddy's girl), any kind of berry, yogurt, and raisins. She also loves utensils and eating like a big girl.

Still can be pretty messy!
Loving daddy's hamburger

Nursing 3-4 times a day.  Her first feed of the day is her best, then the next two she's usually really distracted and it can be tough to get her to stay still for more than 10 seconds at a time, and then her bedtime feed is hit or miss.  We've introduced both cow and goat milk to her as a snack here and there so she could get a taste for it, and I think now that she's 1 we're going to replace her 1-2 day feeds and see how we go.

Sleeping!  (Salt thrown over shoulder, knocking on wood).  She's still taking her naps in crib, usually one in the morning and one in the afternoon, both for an hour give or take.  Some days she skips her morning nap and instead takes a 2hr+ afternoon nap.  This started because she won't sleep at nursery, and has stretched to playgroup day as well.  Then on a recent weekend she just refused her morning nap one day.  So I think we've officially started transitioning.  She's also generally sleeping through the night, usually from 7:30pm-7am give or take a little either side.

Still sleeping in some really strange positions...

Goes from sleeping to awake in the blink of an eye!

Teething!  Tooth number 7 (third on the bottom) is taking it's sweet, sweet time.  We can see it, and have been able to for weeks, but it just won't come all the way through!  Poor baby. Number 8 is not far behind either.

Loves to do cheers!  Doesn't matter if it's with her cup, snack bowl or food, she'll hold it out there until you cheers with her - usually several times in a row.

Cheers with mommy
Waiting for daddy to come cheers

Talking up a storm.  She's not said any clear words, but she makes sounds that mimic us.  Her favorites are "What's that?" (said in a whisper), "uh!" (very loud, for uh-oh), "Who is it?" (also said in a whisper, whenever she hears a voice or our phone ring), and "Na na na na na" (when she's mad, I think this comes from me saying no, no, no when she's doing something she shouldn't!).

Still obsessed with books!  She loves to just sit and flip through her books.  She also now hands them to us so that we'll read them to her, and she sit patiently while we do, helping to turn the pages.

Maybe a little too obsessed with the TV. If she gets the remote she knows how to turn it on by herself.  If we go to turn it on for her she gets all excited and animated asking "who is it?" as in who's coming on the TV.  She'll then sit and watch, usually either with a snack or crawling over to stand at the entertainment center so she's as close as she can get to it.  Her absolute favorite right now is The Furchester Hotel and she also enjoys Bing and Chuggington.  Pretty much anything on CBeebies works though.  We try to limit it to only 10-20min once or twice a day, but if she's having a really rough day it's usually the easiest way to get her to relax and not drive mommy crazy!

Dances!  Her little moves are so cute.  She swings her arms side to side, bounces up and down or rocks side to side.  She still loves music, and now dances or claps whenever she hears it!

Gives great hugs and kisses.  She's been giving hugs for a while now, but now she actually squeezes you with her arms.  And pats your back. She also gives some really sweet hugs to her stuffed animals.  Every morning when she wakes up and I take her out of her crib I get a huge, tight squeeze.  This might be my favorite thing in the whole world.

Fun facts!  In Ceci's first year of life she has...
  • Nursed 2,568 times for a total of 14 days, 21 hours and 25 minutes.
  • Drank 302 bottles of expressed milk for a total of 993.5 ounces (that's over 7.5 GALLONS!).
  • Had her diaper changed 2,239 times.
  • Slept for over 216 days!
(FYI - no I didn't actually keep track of all of this myself.  We have an app on our phones that sync up and we log her diaper changes, feeds, medicine and sleep.  We started when she was a newborn just to keep our heads on straight - especially in those first few weeks and months when I was so tired all the days started to run together - and then it just became part of our routine.   It was actually pretty helpful in allowing me to keep tabs on her nursing habits and find patterns in her sleeping.  And of course occasionally remind us when we last gave her teething medication or changed her diaper.  Now that she's 1 we've decided we'll stop.  Or at least try - it's pretty ingrained now, lol).

Here's a look back at Ceci's first year of life:

As always (and sadly, the last time for at least a while) here are the best outtakes and alternates from our two 1 year photo shoots!

Cecilia, you are a wonderful, clever, hilarious, sweet, loving, mischievous, determined little girl.  You have brought us so much joy over the last year.  We love you to pieces and simply can not imagine our lives without you.  Happy 1st Birthday!!
